Description
Andromalius symbolizes retributive justice and the exposure of hidden wrongdoing in the Goetic tradition. Unlike many spirits linked to chaos or destruction, he acts as an officer of law. His role is to restore order by returning stolen items and revealing those who deceive or steal.
In theology, Andromalius reminds people that hidden sins and secret actions cannot escape supernatural notice. His place in the Lesser Key of Solomon shows a wish for stolen property to be returned and for wrongdoers to be punished. He represents the idea that the wicked will be discovered and balance will be restored by revealing the truth.
Appearance
Occult texts describe Andromalius as appearing as a human male of average age and build. His most important feature is a large serpent that he has in his hand. The snake is usually shown as quite large, either coiled or stretching from his grip.
Primary sources do not mention wings, horns, or other non-human features like claws or tails. His clothing is not described in the original texts. Still, he is usually depicted in a style befitting the manuscript’s time. The main focus is always on his human form and the snake.
History
The Final Spirit
The demon first appeared in writing as the last of the seventy-two spirits bound by King Solomon. The Ars Goetia says he was not among the first spirits listed but was added to complete the group. His late addition suggests he had a special role needed to finish the magical system of the Lesser Key.
While other demons were linked to philosophy, war, or nature, Andromalius became the final judge of earthly justice and the last spirit in the Solomonic tradition.

The Binding of the Seventy-Two
According to legend, King Solomon used a ring from the Archangel Michael to command the demon and the other seventy-one spirits. Andromalius was given the job of protecting the kingdom’s property and making sure secret crimes were punished. The stories say he was trapped in a brass vessel and thrown into a deep lake or pit in Babylon to keep the spirits from bothering people.
When people in Babylon found the vessel, they broke it open, expecting to find gold, but instead released the spirits. Andromalius then returned to his place in the Abyss, waiting for magicians who knew how to summon him.
The Hunter of the Wicked
In medieval and Renaissance folklore, Andromalius was feared by those who lived by stealing. Stories among dark arts practitioners said he would not only find a thief but also haunt them with his large serpent until the stolen goods were returned. He was seen as a relentless hunter of the deceitful.
Unlike demons who gave favors for a price, Andromalius was called on to correct a wrong. This made him unique in demonology, as he was summoned for a purpose that resembled a moral good, even if it was done through dark and forceful methods.

| Ars Goetia | The Seventy-second Spirit in Order is named Andromalius. He is an Earl, Great and Mighty, appearing in the Form of a Man holding a Great Serpent in his Hand. |
| Ars Goetia | His Office is to bring back both a Thief, and the Goods which be stolen; and to discover all Wickedness, and Underhand-dealing; and to punish all Thieves and other Wicked People and also to discover Treasures that be Hid. |
Powers
Andromalius’s powers work by identifying wrongdoers and forcing them, either mentally or physically, to return what they have taken. When something is stolen, he tracks both the item and the thief, making sure the goods are returned. This is more than just tracking; it is a power that overcomes the thief’s will.
He can also reveal “underhand dealing,” which means exposing conspiracies, secret plans, and dishonest agreements.
By exposing these hidden motives, he removes the secrecy needed for such actions to work. His punishment falls directly on those he sees as “wicked,” often leading to their social downfall or bad luck.
He can also find “treasures that be hid,” either by helping the practitioner see where valuables are hidden or by revealing their location. He does this with the skill expected of a Great Earl.
