Description

Allocer is conceptually defined as a demon of intellectual pursuit and observation. In the theological context of Goetic magic, he represents the corruption of wisdom and the pursuit of forbidden or hidden knowledge. He exists within the infernal hierarchy as a patron of the “Liberal Sciences,” which historically included grammar, logic, rhetoric, arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy.

Unlike demons focused on destruction, Allocer uses intelligence in a calculated way. He is linked to watching the skies, not for worship, but to predict fate and control nature. He is described as serious and imposing, fitting the fields he governs.

Appearance

Allocer appears as a knight or soldier, with a lion-like face that is strong and broad. His skin is usually described as red, and his eyes are intense, often said to glow or look like fire.

He is shown riding a large, powerful horse that sometimes has dragon-like legs or other monstrous traits. His voice is very hoarse and loud, matching his strong appearance. He usually wears medieval knight’s armor, highlighting his rank in the underworld.

History

Origins

Allocer first appears in the mid-16th century in the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, a demon list by Johann Weyer. Stories say he was once a high-ranking angel who joined the rebellion against the Creator.

His story is similar to that of other demons, like Lucifer in Christian belief, who was also a fallen angel. In contrast, figures like Ravana in Hindu mythology are powerful but not fallen angels. These stories show a common theme of rebelling against divine authority in many cultures.

After his fall, Allocer kept his sharp mind and knowledge of the cosmos. He used these skills to serve Hell, leading his thirty-six legions with great precision. His form as a soldier-lion shows his change from a being of light to a tough leader in the underworld.

The Binding of Solomon

In stories about King Solomon, Allocer is one of the 72 spirits the King trapped in a brass vessel and threw into a deep lake. Folklore says Allocer tried to bargain for freedom by offering Solomon secrets about the stars and planets.

Stories claim Solomon used Allocer’s knowledge to help plan the First Temple, making him use his skills for a holy cause. However, Allocer was said to be tricky, adding small flaws to the knowledge he shared.

The Astronomer of the Abyss

In later occult and European folklore, Allocer is called the “Astronomer of Hell.” Some stories describe him on high infernal mountains, tracking “dark stars” that people cannot see. These legends say he uses this knowledge to predict changes between the human and demon worlds.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, some believed Allocer’s power was strongest during certain astrological events. At these times, he was thought to share secrets of the liberal sciences with struggling scholars, often asking for their spiritual loyalty in return.

Ars GoetiaThe Fifty-second Spirit is Alloces, or Alocas. He is a Duke, Great, Mighty, and Strong, appearing in the Form of a Soldier riding upon a Great Horse. His Face is like that of a Lion, very Red, and having Flaming Eyes. His Speech is hoarse and very big. His Office is to teach the Art of Astronomy, and all the Liberal Sciences. He bringeth unto thee Good Familiars; also he ruleth over 36 Legions of Spirits.

Powers

Allocer can impart deep knowledge of the liberal sciences by filling people’s minds with complex ideas. However, this often disturbs their peace of mind. As an expert in astronomy, he can predict the future by reading the stars, offering insights that normal study cannot provide.

His command over thirty-six legions allows him to manipulate the physical environment to protect his followers or harass his enemies. One specific mechanism of his power is the induction of a heavy, gravelly hoarseness in the voice of those he communicates with or targets.

He can also give “familiars,” or lesser spirits, to those who summon him. These spirits act as helpers and spies, supporting the sorcerer while also reporting back to Allocer.
