Description
In the Goetia, Amdusias is described as a high-ranking demon. He is seen as a master of sound and resonance, using these powers to influence the world in unseen ways. In Solomonic magic, Amdusias helps magicians manipulate nature through sound, which is shown by his ability to make trees bend.
Amdusias stands at the crossroads of the natural world and chaos, inspiring both noise and dark creativity. Instead of causing only destruction, he works through art and nature, reminding us that invisible forces can shape the world without direct contact.
Appearance
Amdusias is usually shown as a unicorn, with the body of a horse and a long, sharp horn on his forehead. He often looks imposing, and in some images, like those in the Dictionnaire Infernal, he has claws like a cat instead of hooves.
When summoned or called on, Amdusias can take on a human form. Even then, he keeps a strong, commanding presence. Sometimes, he still has the unicorn’s horn, or it is replaced by a crown to show his rank as a Great Duke. His movements are often stiff, like the trees he can bend.

History
The Celestial Discord
Amdusias was originally a potent spirit within the angelic choir of the Virtues, the order responsible for the movement of celestial bodies and the administration of natural laws. During this period, he was considered a master of the “music of the spheres,” ensuring that the resonance of the cosmos remained in perfect harmony.
However, when the rebellion led by the Morning Star began, Amdusias found the rigid structure of celestial harmony to be a constraint on his creative potential. He chose to join the fallen host, believing that true power lay in discord and the ability to bend the laws of nature to one’s own will. After his fall, he descended into the Abyss, where his nature shifted.
His beautiful music turned into loud, unseen fanfares in the underworld. He became a Great Duke, leading twenty-nine legions of spirits skilled in using sound for battle and changing the environment.
The Binding and the Brass Vessel
One of the most well-known stories about Amdusias is how King Solomon trapped him. The Goetia says Solomon called Amdusias using a special ring from the heavens. When Amdusias appeared, he was a huge unicorn and would not speak or recognize Solomon’s power.
Solomon, undeterred, used the divine seal to compel the demon to assume a human form. According to lore, the air in the throne room vibrated so violently that the palace walls groaned, and the sound of a thousand trumpets erupted from the empty air.
Solomon compelled Amdusias to reveal the secrets of the earth’s resonance—how sound could be used to shatter stone and make the very trees of the field bow in submission. After extracting these secrets and the service of several familiars, Solomon bound Amdusias within a great brass vessel.
Amdusias and the other seventy-one spirits were sealed with a lead stopper and thrown into a deep lake in Babylon. He stayed trapped for centuries until people in Babylon, thinking the vessel held gold, broke the seal and accidentally set Amdusias and his legions free.
The Bending of the Great Oaks
In European folklore, especially during the medieval occult era, Amdusias was often featured in stories about the “Bending of the Trees.” One common tale describes a desperate sorcerer trying to impress a doubtful local lord. The sorcerer called on Amdusias at the edge of an old, sacred forest. As the ritual peaked, people said the wind stopped, but a loud, unseen orchestra began to play.
Following the sorcerer’s command, with Amdusias’s help, the huge oaks and elms all began to bend together. The trees did not snap but bent until their tallest branches touched the ground, as if bowing to a ruler. When the music stopped, the trees stayed twisted, and people avoided the grove, believing it was a place where the world and the infernal were close.
The Patron of the Dark Conservatory
In later occult traditions and among those who follow the “Left-Hand Path,” Amdusias is said to secretly help musicians looking for forbidden skills. One story tells of a composer who could not finish a great symphony. After asking the Great Duke for help through a ritual, the composer started to hear “The Invisible Concert.”
For many nights, his study was filled with the sounds of instruments that were not really there, playing strange melodies that broke all the rules of music. The composer quickly became famous for his haunting new piece, but the legend says the music had a hidden frequency.
People who heard the symphony felt a sudden, deep sadness and wanted to wander into the wild. In the end, the composer disappeared, and it was said that Amdusias took him to join his infernal choir forever.

The Guardian of the Hidden Path
Another story says Amdusias guards hidden gateways in deep forests. Some groves are said to be protected by his “Sonic Aegis.” If travelers get too close, they are hit by a wall of sound so strong it causes pain and confusion.
If they keep going, Amdusias appears as a Unicorn and chases them away, not to harm them with his horn, but to drive them back to the normal world. This shows his role as a protector of wild places that cannot be tamed by people or Heaven.

| Pseudomonarchia Daemonum | Amdusias a great duke, he commeth foorth like an unicorne, but being bidden, he standeth before his maister in humane shape. At his commandement (the exorcist exhorting him) there is heard the sound of trumpets, and all kind of musicall instruments. |
Powers
Amdusias uses sound and resonance as his main tools. His main power is creating “invisible music.” Instead of playing instruments, he changes the air itself to make complex sounds. This music can be overwhelming, putting listeners into a trance or making them very afraid. He can use this wall of sound to hide himself or his followers, making it a powerful weapon or shield.
Amdusias also has a special power over plants. He can make trees bend, lean, or even wither by sending out vibrations that affect the structure of wood and other plant life.
Occultists have often tried to use this power to change their surroundings or to show that Amdusias was present during rituals. He is also known for giving practitioners “excellent familiars,” which are minor spirits that help with music or magic, spreading his influence even further.
